Mini Conference: Digital history and the datafication of historical records

Digital history or the use of digital tools, including computational methods, to make and present historical analysis, has been around for at least a decade by now. Computational methods and digital analytical tools can only be used on digital or digitized material. The mini conference will focus on the transformation of archival records, whether originally paper records or born digital records, when they become ‘datafied’ to enable the use of digital tools including computational methods.

Day 1 will present current digitization projects and ask: Why digitize and what new research opportunities opens up? What about the long-term preservation and access to digitized archives/collections?

Day 2 will ask what types of transformation of archival data is required using digital analytical tools? What and what not can we use digital methods for? Including ethical questions related to digital transformation and use of archival records.
