SSH

Mini Conference: How can SSH researchers use LLMs in their research (POSTPONED)

Are you curious about how artificial intelligence is changing the way we write, research, and understand literature? Join an exciting mini-conference with researcher Malthe Stavning Erslev, who presents his groundbreaking research on bot mimicry and machine mimesis – and how this affects digital literature and research practices in the humanities and social sciences. The presentation focuses on how our interactions with AI – especially language models – are transforming our use of computers in both factual and fictional writing.

Through questions like “How can SSH researchers use LLMs in their research?” and “Does it even make sense to think about automation or augmentation in our fields?” participants are invited to reflect on how AI’s human-like design both opens opportunities and raises methodological and epistemological challenges.

After the presentation, participants are invited to a 2-hour workshop where we will hands-on test a GenAI tool for literature review.
In the workshop, we will simulate a fictional literature review, where participants will have the opportunity to experiment with the use of LLMs in the research process.

The focus is on:
• Developing hypotheses and research questions in collaboration with AI
• Critical thinking about AI's suggestions and biases
• Dynamic formulation and adjustment of inclusion and exclusion criteria
• Reflection on the role LLMs can play in research practices

The workshop provides space for immersion, discussion, and critical reflection – with a special focus on the researchers' own experiences and assessments of AI’s value and pitfalls in literature work.
